Metroid Prime Remastered Thardus Boss Guide

Thardus is one of the bosses that Samus must defeat in Metroid Prime Remastered. It is a sentient being animated by Phazon. Because of it thick exterior, it can take a lot of beating and only barely get scratches, unless its weakpoints are revealed.

Read ahead as we go through the Thardus boss fight and share tips on how to win the fight easily.

    How to reach Thardus

Make your way to the Ruined Courtyard up at the central part of Phendrana. Take the time to use the Save Station on the west side of the courtyard. Then, approach the gate leading to the Quarantine Access and shoot the cordite with your Super Missiles to reveal a switch. Next, shoot this switch using your Wave Beam to open the door that leads to Thardus.

    How to defeat Thardus

Thardus covers its Phazon power source so you cannot lock on to any part of its body when using just the Combat Visor. You will need to switch to the Thermal Visor to reveal and get a lock on the power source. Shoot the glowing part a couple of times using your basic shots and prepare to switch back to your Combat Visor as the Phazon will blind you through the Thermal Visor. You can then continue shooting it down until the Phazon part is destroyed. You just then need to repeat this process throughout the fight.

Be aware of Thardus’ attacks such as the freezing attack and the boulder attack. When you get frozen, mash with the L or the B button to free yourself. Once you see Thardus curl up into a ball, stop shooting and focus on dodging its rolling attack by going into Morph Ball mode. The boss can also raise boulders from the ground and use them as projectiles that you can either shoot or dodge.

Thardus can also summon snowstorms that will block your view. Simply switch to your Thermal Visor to see through the storm. The trick to getting through the storm phase quickly is by saving your Super Missiles and only unleash them once the storm starts. Dealing with a rolling Thardus through a storm can make aiming tricky so best use your Super Missiles where they count.

Once the boss has been defeated, you can grab the Spider Ball upgrade from the middle of the arena.
